AIR in Tainan Artists-in-Residence (AIR) Program for 2027 Soulangh Cultural Park, Tainan, Taiwan

The themes of the 2027 Soulangh AiR Program will be related to 'sugar', 'salt', or 'local cultures'. Soulangh Cultural Park used to be an important sugar refinery, having been founded during the era of Japanese rule. The park is situated in Jiali District, the geographical center of the so-called Saline Land of Tainan. In the past, the surrounding area was an essential place of habitation for the Siraya people, a Taiwanese Indigenous tribe. Furthermore, the area is rich in many different cultural elements, including Taoist temples and centipede parades, both of which are important cultural characteristics of the region. Artists who participate in the 2027 Soulangh AiR Program will be encouraged to explore their artistic practices based on the theme of sugar as a significant element of the area's heritage. In addition, 'salt' and 'local cultures' may also be explored as themes for artists to reinterpret through their work, thereby representing the landscapes, culture, and history of this unique region.

Ey!Studio residencies

Ey!Studio AiR is an international artist residency hosted by #Ey!Studio, an independent artist-run space founded in 2017 in Carabanchel, Madrid. The program provides a supportive environment for artistic research, experimentation, and the development of new work within one of Spain’s most dynamic contemporary art communities. The residency welcomes artists, researchers, curators, writers, filmmakers, musicians, and interdisciplinary practitioners from around the world. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, Ey!Studio AiR encourages self-directed practice, allowing each resident to develop their project at their own pace while becoming part of an international community of creative practitioners. Located in Carabanchel, Madrid’s leading district for contemporary artistic production, the residency offers direct access to galleries, artist studios, independent spaces, and cultural initiatives that have transformed the neighbourhood into one of the city’s most vibrant creative ecosystems. Residents receive private accommodation, access to shared workspaces and common facilities, and opportunities for professional exchange through studio visits, networking, and participation in an optional collective exhibition or open studio, depending on the residency period. As a non-profit cultural association, Ey!Studio reinvests all income generated by the residency program into maintaining and expanding its activities, supporting future artistic initiatives, and strengthening international cultural exchange.
